East German sprinter and long jumper Christa Stubnick was named German Sportswoman of the Year in 1953. She was married to boxer Erich Stubnick, although they later divorced, and she re-married. In Magdeburg she became head of an intelligence unit of the People’s Police District (VPKA), later reaching the rank of Major.

Stubnick won two silver medals at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics in the 100 and 200 metres. With the 4x100 relay she finished sixth. At the 1958 Europeans she won the bronze medal in the 100 and came in fifth in the 200. In East Germany she won national titles in the 100 in 1953-54, in the 200 in 1953-54 and 1958, with the sprint relay in 1956-58, and in the long jump in 1954 and 1956. During her athletics career Stubnick set 11 world records.

Personal Bests: 100 – 11.5 (1956); 200 – 23.5 (1956).
