At the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics, Kim Yun-Mi skated into the Olympic record books. At only 13-years-old, she became the youngest Olympic champion at the Winter Games. Kim went on to retain her title in 1998, when she also competed individually (but without medalling). The 1995 Junior World Champion, Kim was a member of three victorious Korean teams at the World Team Championships (1995-97), earning a silver in 1994 and 1998. Individually, she placed third overall in 1995 in Gjøvik, while winning three distance medals (and four more in the relay). Kim's final performance before retirement came at the 1999 Asian Winter Games, when she won two golds in front of a home crowd at Gangwon. She attempted a comeback for the Salt Lake City Olympics, but failed due to injury.
