Биография

As a flyweight Tim Austin won the 1990-91 US Golden Gloves title and was US Amateur Champion in 1991. He finished his amateur career with a record of 113-9. Austin captured bronze at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and then turned professional.

Austin’s first professional fight was in April 1993, when he won by knockout in the first over Joey López. He fought professionally through April 2006, losing to Eric Aiken by TKO in the sixth. Austin won the IBF Bantamweight title on July 1997 with a TKO victory over Mbulelo Botile. He defended that title 10 times before losing to Rafael Marquez by TKO in the eighth in February 2004. Austin finished with a career record of 27 wins (24 by KO), 2 losses, and 1 draw.

Austin had some legal difficulties during and shortly after his career. After the loss to Marquez he was accused of raping a 16-year-old girl, although he was acquitted of that charge. In 2008 he was arrested and charged with domestic violence after allegedly attacking and threatening to kill his wife.
