Thoralf STRÖMSTAD

Thoralf Strømstad was a consistent allrounder in skiing events. In the period 1918-24 he was ten times among the top six in 50 km or Nordic Combined at Holmenkollen, and in 1916 he won the jumping event in Nordic combined. Strømstad was Norwegian Champion in 1919, and also won a national championship title in 30 km cross-country in 1922.

Almost 40 years after the 1924 Games, Strømstad contacted Norwegian ski historian Jacob Vaage, claiming that the points from the ski jumping event for Thorleif Haug had been miscalculated, and the bronze medal should go to Anders Haugen from USA. In 1974 the IOC decided to award Haugen the bronze, and the medal was given to Haugen by Haug's daughter in a ceremony in Oslo with Strømstad present.
