The 18-year-old Portsmouth hairdresser, Russell Garcia, is the youngest hockey player ever to have represented Great Britain at the Olympics in hockey. A mid-field player with Havant, Garcia came on as a replacement in three of the preliminary round matches in Seoul but did not play in the semi-final or the final. His playing career lasted from 1988-2000, and also competed for Britain at Barcelona and Atlanta. He played club hockey in England, Spain, Germany, and the Netherlands. In 1998 he was nominated by FIH as world player of the year. He later became a hockey coach.
