Биография

Light-heavyweight boxer Richard Vogt won the silver medal at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, losing the final on points to Frenchman Roger Michelot. Vogt won three German titles before turning professional in 1938, and in 1941 he beat Heinz Seidler to win his first National title as a pro. The following year Vogt fought Luigi Musina of Italy for the vacant European light-heavyweight title, but lost on points over 15 rounds.

In 1948 he became famous by winning on points over 10 rounds against the famous German heavyweight Max Schmeling in what was Schmeling’s 70th and last bout. Vogt continued to box until 1952, and even regained his German light-heavyweight title. After quitting the boxing ring, Vogt turned to professional wrestling. He was also a versatile harness racer and owned some horses. He died in 1988, following a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
