Биография

Rauno Miettinen won the 1968 and 1969 World Junior titles in Nordic combined and those would remain his only titles at an international championship. Miettinen competed at four Olympics (1972-84), with his most successful the 1972 Winter Olympics, in which he won a silver medal. At the 1976 and 1984 Olympics he was fourth, while in 1980 he placed a disappointing 23rd. At the 1972 and 1976 Olympics, Miettinen also competed in ski jumping, but with less success. Miettinen won three silvers at the World Championships, an individual silver in 1978 and team silvers in 1982 and 1984. He was also fourth in 1970 and sixth at the 1974 World Championships in individual Nordic combined. But Miettinen’s biggest success as a Nordic combined athlete was at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival, where he won the event in 1969, 1971-73, and 1978, one of only four people to win that event five times. In 1972 he was also awarded the Holmenkollen Medal. Miettinen won the Nordic combined at the Lahti Ski Games in 1976 and 1982 and won the Schwarzwald Pokal in 1974-75 and 1978. By profession Miettinen was a baker.
