During his career, Pavel Benc competed at four Olympic Winter Games (1984, 1988, 1992, 1994) and six World Championships (1985, 1987, 1989, 1991, 1993, 1995). The highlight of his career was at the 1988 Winter Olympics, where he won a surprising relay bronze with Radim Nyč, Václav Korunka and Ladislav Švanda. His best individual Olympic finish was 25th in 30 km at the 1994 Olympics and his best individual finish at a major international tournament was fifth in the 50 km at the 1991 World Championships. At the World Cup circuit, his best finish was fourth over 30 km in Lahti in March 1987 and his best overall finish was 25th in both the 1988-89 and 1989-90 seasons. After finishing his sporting career, Benc worked as the head of security with sports club Dukla Liberec.
