Биография

In addition to competing in the 400 m, Ollan Cassell picked up a gold medal and a share of a new world record as lead-off man in the 4×400 metres relay at Tokyo. After graduation from the University of Houston, he represented the Houston Track Club. At the 1963 Pan American Games he won silver in the 200 metres and gold with both relay teams in the 4×100 metres (with Earl Young, Ira Murchison, and the non-Olympian Brooks Johnson) and in the 4×400 metres (with Earl Young and the non-Olympians James Johnson and Richard Edmunds). At the AAU Cassell won the 220y in 1957 and the 440y in 1965. He later became executive director of The Athletics Congress, track's governing body in the United States.

Personal Bests: 100y – 9.4 (1957); 200 – 20.8 (1963); 400 – 45.6 (1964); 880y – 1:50.7 (1964).
