Биография

Noel Rhys won his first British freestyle title as a heavyweight in 1912 and that same year competed in the Greco-Roman middleweight competition at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics. He was surprisingly beaten by the 1908 Olympian William West in defence of his British title in 1913 and had to then wait until after the War, in which he served with the Royal Marines Artillery Service, before getting a chance to regain his title, which he did in 1920. He also competed in his second Olym pics that year, this time in the light-heavyweight freestyle division. Fighting at middleweigt, he then won two more British titles in 1922 and 1923 and then took part in his third Olympics, also at middleweight, at Paris in 1924. Rhys emigrated to Australia where he married Nea Mowle in 1930 and died in his adopted country in 1971.
