From Cleveland, Nate Brooks went on to have a short career as a professional after his Olympic triumph. He fought as a professional and in 1953 chalked up seven victories against one defeat. On 8 February 1954 he won the North American bantamweight championship by KO'ing Billy Peacock in the eighth round. He defended the title twice before losing it. This defeat led to a string of losses, and he retired from the ring after 1954.
