Биография

A big and heavy forward, Mirko Sandić was a key player of the Yugoslav water polo squad that won the 1968 Olympic gold medal. Between 1958 and 1974, Sandić played 235 matches for Yugoslavia, scoring 250 times. In addition to his Olympic title, he won an Olympic silver (1964) and two European Championship bronzes (1966, 1970). He was active for Partizan Beograd his entire career, winning 11 league titles, seven domestic cups and five European Cups (1964, 1966, 1967, 1971, 1975). After his active career, Sandić held coaching jobs around the world, leading the national teams of Singapore, Egypt and Malaysia, while also coaching in Australia and Yugoslavia. He became a member of the Yugoslav NOC in 1987, and became the first president of the Serbian water polo federation (1996-2003). In 1999, Mirko Sandić was inducted in the International Swimming Hall of Fame.
