Биография

Mike Modano was the first overall pick in the 1988 NHL draft, while in high school and playing Junior A hockey for the Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League. He has since played 19 years in the NHL, and his career is unusual in this era, as it has all been for one team. He was drafted by the Minnesota North Stars, playing there for four years, and the team then moved to become the Dallas Stars, for whom he has played for 15 years. He basically holds every franchise scoring record for the Stars, and played on one Stanley Cup Champion, in 1999. As of 2009, Modano is the all-time leader in goals and points scorers in the NHL among American-born players, with 543 goals, 786 assists, and 1,329 points through 2008-09. A center, he has played in seven NHL All-Star Games, was on the 1989-90 All-Rookie team, and in 1999-00, was second-team All-NHL. Internationally, Modano has competed frequently for the United States, playing in the 1988 and 1989 World Junior Championships, the 1990, 1993, and 2005 World Championships, 1992 Canada Cup, the 1997 and 2005 World Cup, and the Winter Olympics in 1998, 2002, and 2006. He is the founder of the Mike Modano Foundation, which raises awareness and funding for organizations offering education and assistance to children and families affected by child abuse, and is known for his contributions to charitable organizations and the Texas community, in general.
