The quartet also broke the world record, finishing the race in 3:29:69. Meg Harris completed her leg in 53.09 seconds.

She also won a bronze in the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay as part of the team in the heats. At the age of 19, Meg Harris won two medals on her Olympic debut.

In 2022, Meg Harris made her senior World Championships debut in Budapest, winning four medals - two golds, a silver and a bronze.

In the 4x100m freestyle mixed event, Meg partnered Mollie O’Callaghan, Kyle Chalmers and Jack Cartwright and the quartet clocked 3:19:38 to win the gold and break the world record.

At the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, she won a silver medal in the 50m freestyle, losing out to team-mate Emma McKeon. She was also part of the gold medal-winning team in the mixed 4x100m freestyle relay.

Meg ended a triumphant 2022 in style, winning two gold and three silver medals at the Short Course World Championships in Melbourne. All five medals were won in relays.

The young swimmer’s world record-breaking spree continued in 2023. Teaming up with Mollie O’Callaghan, Shayna Jack and Emma McKeon, Meg swam a 52.29 split as the team clocked a sensational 3:27.96 to break the 4x100m freestyle world record yet again.

Leading up to the Paris 2024 Olympics, Meg finished third in the 100m freestyle final at the Olympic trials in Brisbane and booked a berth in the Dolphins’ Olympic squad. She also won the 50m freestyle gold at the 2024 Australian Championships at the Gold Coast.

Her campaign at the Paris 2024 Olympics began with a gold medal in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay. The world-record holding quartet of Meg, Mollie, Shayna and Emma clocked 3:28:92 and bagged gold by breaking their Olympic record set at Tokyo 2020.

Meg also won her first individual Olympic medal, finishing second in the women's 50m freestyle final with a timing of 23.97 seconds. She swam in the women’s 4x100 medley relay heats and bagged a silver medal for it as well.

Meg Harris is partially deaf and uses a combination of lip reading and hearing aids. Challenges that Meg finds in swimming are often the struggle to hear the starting gun and communication in her environment. She also found the masks being worn during the pandemic a challenge.

However, she has attributed a lot of credit to her team-mates and support staff in making communication easier.

"A lot of my coaches use hand signals a lot, so that's made it easier," Harris told Deaf Sports Australia. "The team are all used to me and they were so supportive.”

“I know I can hear, I can still hear the sound, but for me, it’s also I’m so used to looking at lips and just putting everything together. If you want to do something, there’s going to be many people out there that are willing to help you get there," Meg added.
