Kamie Ethridge was a point guard who played at the University of Texas, helping them earn #1 rankings in both her junior and senior years, and leading them to the 1986 NCAA title with an undefeated record of 34-0. That year she was given the Frances Pomeroy Naismith award, presented each year to the nation's best NCAA Division I female basketball player who stands 5'8" tall or under.
Internationally Ethridge won gold medals at the 1986 World Championships, the 1987 Pan American Games, and the 1988 Olympics. She then played professionally in Italy, although only briefly. In 1990 Ethridge became an assistant coach at Northern Illinois. She later moved to Vanderbilt as an assistant, and then to Kansas State, where she was promoted to head coach, a position she held through 2014. Ethridge is a member of the University of Texas Women’s Athletic Hall of Honor, elected in 2000, and in 2002 was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.
