Jürgen Barth was one of the most successful German track cyclists. He, and his longtime partner Rainer Müller, won the Tandem World Championship in 1970, and additionally was placed second at the Worlds in 1969 and 1971. Furthermore, he was an eight-time German sprint and tandem champion. Barth’s best individual performance internationally was in finishing third in the sprint at the 1969 Grand Prix de Paris. Barth was eliminated in the sprint quarter-finals at the 1968 Mexico Olympics, and, with Müller, in the quarter-finals of the tandem at the 1972 München Olympics.
