Биография

Judit Temes was on the Hungarian national swim team from 1944-56, after which she retired to pursue a medical career. In addition to her two Olympic medals, she won a European Championship in the 4x100 freestyle relay in 1954 and added a silver medal that year in the 100 free. During her career she won 29 Hungarian titles, 12 in individual events, and won 12 championships at the Universiade meets of 1949, 1951, and 1954. She helped Hungary set three world records in various relay events from 1950-54, and set seven Hungarian records in individual events, five in the 100 freestyle.

Temes earned her medical degree in 1955 from the Budapest University of Medicine and later worked for the unversity’s pathology department and cancer research institute. She was also an attending at the László Hospital, and headed the St. Elizabeth Hospital Department of Pathology in 1994. She continued studying and earned a philosophy of teaching degree in 1975 and a law degree in 2000 from the Eötvös Loránd University.

Temes also worked in sports administration serving in various roles with the Hungarian Olympic Committee and Hungarian Swimming Association, where she served a term as President, and with the European Swimming Federation.
