Биография

Shot putter Johanna Hübner-Lüttge participated in three consecutive Olympic Games from 1956-64 with the mixed German team. Eleventh in 1956, she improved her performance to a silver medal in 1960 at Rome and finished ninth in 1964 at Tokyo. She was born in Erfurt and started in 1964 under the name of her husband, hurdler Horst Hübner (East German champion over 110 hurdles in 1957 and 1959). They later divorced and she married shot putter Rudolf Langer.

During the 1950s and 1960s Hübner-Lüttge was among the world’s best shot putters and was the first German female to surpass the 16 metre barrier in 1959. In both 1958 and 1962 she placed an unfortunate fourth at the European Championships. She was East German Champion four times in a row in 1957-60.

Personal Best: SP – 17.06 (1963).
