Besides her 1972 Olympic bronze with the 4×400 metres relay, Inge Bödding won three more medals at the European Championships: 1969 4×400 bronze and two silvers in 1971 – 400 and 4×400. She added two silvers at the European Indoor Championships in 1971 and 1972 in the 400 and a gold in the 1972 4×2 laps. In 1971 she was German Champion indoor and outdoor in the 400, while in 1969 she was part of the world record setting 4×400 relay team (3:33.9 at Athina).
In 1972 she was awarded the Silbernes Lorbeerblatt (Silver Bay Leaf) and the Hermann-Seiffart-Gedächtnispreis (Hermann Seiffart Memorial Award), and in 2006 the DLV silver pin. Inge Bödding later became the mother-in-law of marathon runner Steffen Benecke who married her daughter Annkathrin, a 3,000 meter runner, both non-Olympians.
