Биография

Hammer thrower Heinz Weis had his greatest moment winning the 1997 World Championships. He also added another bronze in 1991, but failed to make the final in 1995 and 1999. At the 1994 Europeans he won a bronze medal, placing eighth in 1990 and fourth in 1998. At the World Cups he reached the podium three times as winner in 1989, second in 1998, and third in 1994. He won European Cups in 1989, 1997 and 1998, and finished fourth in 1991 and 1994.

Weis also participated in four consecutive Olympic Games from 1988-2000, finishing fifth (for West Germany), sixth, and fifth, and then failed to reach the final in 2000 (all for Germany). He also won German titles in 1988-92, 1994, and 1997-98. In 2000, he was awarded the Rudolf-Harbig Memorial Award. By profession the son of a wine grower became a graduated economic businessman and a finance broker.
