Fernando Aguilar won a bronze medal in the 5,000 metres at the 1963 Mediterranean Games, trailing Tunisian star Mohammed Gammoudi, who won the gold. Aguilar was Spanish champion in the 5K in 1963 and won the Spanish 10K title in 1963 and 1967. He was never world ranked in the top 10 in either event, but was 22nd on the 1963 year list, with 29:22.2, and 19th in 1964, with 28:59.0.
