Hurdler Erwin Wegner won the silver medal at the 1934 European Championships in the 110 metre hurdles. At the 1932 Los Angeles and 1936 Berlin Olympics he was eliminated in the semifinals both years. In Los Angeles he also finished ninth in the decathlon. He was German champion in 1932, 1933, 1935 and 1937 in the high hurdles, and his German record of 14.5 seconds in 1935 stood for 20 years. Wegner was a trained teacher and coach at the DHFL Berlin and held a doctorate in physical education. The SS officer (Obersturmbannführer) was killed in action in the last months of World War II in France.
