Edgar BEHR

Edgar Behr, who finished in fourth place in Los Angeles in the One-Person Dinghy, suffered from a controversial jury decision. He was disqualified in the ninth race, because he allegedly touched a buoy, which he denied until his death. But as the only German sailor with no support from an official, he had little chance to reverse the verdict. Otherwise he likely would have won the bronze medal. At the Olympic trials on the Müggel near Berlin in May 1932 he had already criticized the Snowbird Class boats to be poorly suited for high-class racing.

Behr was a member of the famous Alster-Piraten-Club, which was founded in 1898 in Hamburg, and is one of the oldest German sailing clubs, traditionally accepting only young male members. In 1938 the club was merged with the Norddeutscher Regatta Verein. Edgar Behr was the son of the entrepreneur Richard Behr, who founded a company for the production and import of feathers and down. Edgar took over the company after World War II.
