Christa Kinshofer started her alpine career in 1971, with her best year coming in 1979, when she was World Cup champion in giant slalom, with four race wins that year, and for which she was elected German Sportswoman of the Year. After her Olympic silver medal in 1980, she had some problems with the Deutscher Skiverband (DSV), and raced briefly for the Netherlands before returning to the West German ski team for the 1988 Winter Olympics, where she won two further medals, then retiring from competition. She later wrote a fitness book Fit for Success, became a prominent speaker and organized golf tournaments and ski events.
