Биография

Chet Bowman’s finest year in track was 1928. In that year he won the AAU 100 yards, equaling the world record of 9.6. With his Newark AC team, he ran on a world-record setting 4x110 yard relay team. Bowman was also AAU indoor 60 yard champion in 1925 and 1930. He won the 100 at the 1925 Penn Relays and was second in the 100 at the IC4As that year. Bowman ran for Syracuse University, where he was also a star running back in football, and it was rumored that his college coach illegally widened the football field to take advantage of his speed.

Bowman later worked in real estate, as one of the founding members of the Bowman & Axelsen real estate firm in Sea Bright, New Jersey. He also served as a vice-president of the First National Bank of Sea Bright, but Bowman died quite young from a heart attack.

Personal Bests: 100y – 9.6 (1927); 100 – 10.6 (1924).
