Brigitte Rohde, a 400 runner, earned a gold medal at the 1976 Montréal Olympics in the 4x400 relay, running the second leg. With the relay she also won the 1979 World Cup, the 1974 European Championships, and European Cups in 1970, 1975 and 1979. At the Europeans she also placed fourth in the 400 hurdles. Domestically Rohde earned East German titles in the 400 hurdles in 1974 (indoors), at 400 metres in 1975-76, and with the 4x400 relay in 1974. She was educated as a plant construction draftsperson.
