Биография

West German discus thrower Alwin Wagner was nominated for the 1980 Moskva Olympics but could not start due to the US-led boycott. Four years later in Los Angeles he finished sixth. At the 1983 Worlds he failed to reach the final. At the Europeans Wagner came in 6th (1978), 10th (1982) and 9th (1986). His greatest moments were podiums at the European Cups, placing second in 1979 and 1983, and third in 1981. From 1981-85 he won five West German titles in a row, adding 15 national titles in spin ball throwing. He later continued to compete in masters events.

Wagner was a policeman who was elected Police Sportsman of the Year in 2005, winning 14 German Police titles in all. He also worked as a coach for youth in his home club of MT Melsungen. In 2015, in an interview with German newspaper Die Welt, Wagner confessed to doping for eight years with Dianabol, stating that he received the pills from Freiburg doctor Armin Klümper.
