Biografia

Vladimir Astapovsky took up football with Dynamo Bryansk, before playing from 1963-66 with Neftchi Baku. From 1966-68, Astapovsky played for SKChF Sevastopol, then from 1969-1980 with CSKA Moskva, finishing his sporting career with SKA Khabarovsk in 1981-82. With CSKA Moskva Astapovsky won a Soviet title in 1970. He was capped with the Soviet national team 11 times between 1975-1977 and was the top Soviet goalkeeper at the 1976 Olympics, playing in all five matches and winning a bronze medal. In 1976, Astapovsky was also selected as the best Soviet footballer of the year and best Soviet goalkeeper of the year. After finishing his sporting career, Astapovsky worked as a football coach. At the end of the 1980s, he was the head coach of Mozambique club Matchedje Nampula and later he worked as a goalkeeper coach with CSKA Moskva and Spartak Moskva. He also worked as a goalkeeper coach with the women’s football team Rossiyanka Krasnoarmeysk.
