Tyler PALMER

Tyler Palmer skiied on the World Cup circuit from 1969-72 and on 23 January 1971, won a slalom World Cup race at St. Moritz, the first ever World Cup victory for an American male. In 1970-71, Palmer finished third in the slalom World Cup for the year. During his career he had two World Cup victories, four podium finishes, and nine top 10s, all but one in slalom. One of his podium placements was second in the 1971 Arlberg Kandahar slalom. Palmer competed for the Bear Valley Ski Club. His brother, Terry, also skied for the US at the 1972 Winter Olympics. Tyler Palmer later skiied on the World Professional Ski Tour, where he won five races and won the Spider Sabich Trophy in 1978. He later became a coach for junior racers in Sun Valley, until he retired in 2010. A trail is named for Tyler Palmer at Waterville Valley, New Hampshire, “And Tyler Too,” which is adjacent to his brother’s trail, “Terry’s Trail.”
