Biografia

At the age of 20, Stanley Jones finished fifth in the Southern Area “100” in 1908. He subsequently won many club handicaps, and in 1912 competed in the Olympic trial. He was originally selected a one of the reserves for Stockholm, but when the selectors decided to increase the size of the road race squad from eight to 12, he was called up into the England team that went on to win a silver medal. Jones was the fifth fastest English rider and was just outside the scoring places. After World War I, Jones continued riding, and in 1920, at the age of 32, was still regarded as one of the fastest riders in the country over 50 miles, and was invited to take part in that year’s prestigious North Road CC “50”.
