Roseanne Allen was one of the first aboriginal Canadian women to compete at the Winter Olympics. She was a member of the Gwich’in First Nation, and in 1968, when only 13-years-old, became the youngest Canadian ever to win a gold medal in the Canadian Junior Nordic Ski Championships, winning the 5 km. She competed at the 1972 Winter Olympics alongside fellow aboriginal skiers Shirley and Sharon Firth. Allen retired from competitive racing in 1974.
