At the inaugural Olympic heavyweight taekwondo event in Sydney, Kyong-Hun Kim opened with two crushing 5-0 victories.
Things became tougher for Kim in the semi-finals. His opponent was Pascal Gentil of France, the co-favourite for the tournament. The contest was close, but Kim persevered to win 6-2.
In the final, Kim’s opponent was Australian local hero Daniel Trenton. Kim made the most of his 15cm height advantage to move ahead 2-1 in the first round. He extended his lead to 5-2 in the second round and eventually won 6-2 to claim the gold.
