Although in the shadow of his compatriot Johann Olav Koss, Kjell Storelid had developed into a podium skater in the long distances during the 1993 season. Nevertheless, it was thought to be rather surprising that Storelid was able to win two silver medals at the Lillehammer Games, both times behind Koss. In later years, Storelid remained a top distance skater, but he was never able to return to his 1994 form. Although he won a number of distance medals at All-Around championships, his shorter distances were insufficient to allow for overall medals, except when he won the 1997 Norwegian All-Around title. Storelid, who won two World Cup races (1994 and 1997), retired after the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. He later worked as an engineer at Oslo's energy company.
