Victory by more than 17 points

She won the springboard contest by more than 17 points, ending the U.S. string of eight consecutive victories in the event. Three days later, Krämer won the platform event as well, clinching her victory with her final dive, a one and a half forward somersault with a double twist that turned out to be the highest-scoring dive of the competition.

Defending her springboard title

At the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Krämer, now competing as Ingrid Krämer-Engel, bested three Americans to successfully defend her springboard title. In the platform event, she tried to match Pat McCormick's feat of winning both diving events twice, but she fell just short, finishing only 1.35 points behind Lesley Bush of the United States. In 1968 she made a final Olympic appearance, this time using a third name, Ingrid Gulbin. Competing in the springboard contest, she placed fifth.
