Biografia

Frank Busemann was one of the most surprising medal winners in the track & field events at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, where he won silver in the decathlon. Four years later he finished seventh at Sydney. Busemann placed third at the 1997 World Championships, but did not finish in 1999, retiring after the shot put. In 1995 he placed seventh in the 60 metres hurdles at the World Indoor Championships and took part in the same event at the 1994 European Indoor Championships. He also won six German titles. In his active career he was coached by his father Franz-Josef Busemann (né 1947), and his brother Lars-Achim (né 1978) was also a nationally successful pole vaulter.

Frank Busemann was elected 1996 Sportsman of the Year 1996 and received several awards: Tischi-Martens-Price (1993 and 1994), Sports Badge of Northrhine Westaflia (1997), Rudolf-Harbig-Memory Award (2004), and in 1999 became vice president of the “Association of High-Level Sports Athletes.” The educated bank clerk later worked as a freelance coach and mental trainer. Since 2008 he has been the athletic director at the German Center for Preventive Medicine in Damp. Occasionally he works for the German TV channel ARD at major athletics events. He has also written three books: Aufgeben gilt nicht (2003 - Do Not Give Up), 9 Monate (2009 – Nine Months) and Steh auf, wenn Du am Boden liegst (2010 – Stand Up When You Are Lying on The Ground)
