Claude Netter was one of France's top foil fencers during the 1950s. With the French squad, notably featuring Christian d'Oriola, Netter won the team foil competition in 1952, despite only winning one of his bouts in the final pool. The French would also win the World Championships of 1951 and 1953, both times with Netter as a member. In 1956, the French foil team came second at the Olympics to earn Netter his second Olympic medal. But he also won individual prizes: in 1959, he won the silver medal at the World Championships, and in 1952 he became French foil champion.
