Biografia

Bergljot Sandvik began her athletic career as a figure skater and, with Allan Fjeldheim, won the Norwegian national pairs title in 1939. As an adult, however, she switched to gymnastics, won six national titles, and was selected to represent her country at the 1952 Summer Olympics. As Norway did not enter a squad for the team events, Sandvik (now Sandvik-Johansen, having married non-Olympic speed skater Aage Johansen) competed only individually, with a best finish of joint-103rd in the floor exercises.

She later had an extensive career in sports administration, particularly with the Norwegian Skating Federation, and her daughter, Berit Unn Johansen, represented Norway in the singles figure skating tournament at the 1964 Winter Olympics. Sandvik-Johansen was married to Aage Johansen (1919-2012) who was Norwegian speed skating champion in 1946, and later became a well known coach and team leader in speed skating. Her brother Oddvar Sandvik (1917-1993) was a race walker, competing in thr 50km race in at the European Championships in 1950 and 1958, placing 14th and 10th
