Biografia

An economy student, Arthur Koning rowed for Amsterdam student rowing club Nereus. As a coxswain, he steered an all-Nereus eight towards a second place in the B-final at the 1968 Olympics. His greatest national success came at the 1969 Varsity (the prime Dutch student rowing competition), winning the blue riband coxed fours event. Koning then turned to coaching, leading Ruud Stokvis and Roel Luynenburg to a bronze medal at the 1972 Olympics. Koning, who worked for a training institute for banks, was an honorary member of Nereus, and remained involved with that club until his death.
