Ari-Pekka Nikkola won most of his international championships medals in the team event. Nikkola won two Olympic golds in 1988 and 1992 in team competition. His best individual place at the Olympics was 15th (in 1988 and 1998 in normal hill). Nikkola also won four gold medals at the World Championships, again all of them in the team event in 1987, 1989, 1995 and 1997. He also won silvers in normal hill in 1989 and team event in 1991 and bronze in normal hill in 1991 at the World Championships. Nikkola also won the 1989-90 World Cup. After finishing his sporting career, Nikkola worked as a ski jumping coach, serving as the head coach of Slovenian national team from 2006-08. He also coached the Finnish national team.
