Biografia

Anatoly Albul took up wrestling in 1952 and soon rose to be one of the top Soviet freestyle light-heavyweight wrestlers. During his career, Albul competed in three major international tournaments. At the 1958 World Cup, Albul won gold, at the 1960 Olympics, bronze and at the 1963 World Championships, silver. Domestically, Albul won two Soviet titles (1962, 1963), six silver medals (1955-57, 1961, 1965, 1966) and bronze twice (1958, 1960), all as a freestyle light-heavyweight. Albul graduated from the Lesgaft National State University of Physical Education, Sport and Health and, from 1965-74, worked as a lecturer with the Higher Naval Submarine School in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg Naval Institute). From 1974-87 Albul was a lecturer at the Mozhaysky Military Space Academy and later worked as chairman of the non-profit organization St. Petersburg Centre of Physical Education and Health for Children, Youth, Disabled and Sports Veterans.
