Besides his Olympic silver medal, Aleksandr Koshkin was the World light-middleweight champion in 1982, European light-middleweight champion in 1981, won silver at the 1979 World Cup, won a Soviet welterweight title in 1979, and a Soviet Championships light-middleweight silver in 1980. Koshkin also participated at the 1979 European Championships in welterweight, where he lost his quarter-final bout to West German Ernst Müller. After his boxing career, Koshkin worked as a boxing coach with Dynamo Moskva.
