Biografia

Aleksandr Kornelyuk took up athletics in 1961 and was on the Soviet national team from 1969-75. The apex of Kornelyuk’s career was at the 1972 Olympics, where he finished fourth in the 100 metres in the shadow of the great Valeriy Borzov and won a silver with the Soviet 4x100 relay team. Besides his Olympic medal, Kornelyuk won silver in the 50 metres at the 1972 European Indoor Championships, bronze in the 60 metres at the 1974 European Indoor Championships, and silver in the 100 at the 1973 European Cup. Kornelyuk also competed at the 1971 and 1974 European Championships, where he was fifth in 1971 and eighth in 1974 in the 100, and finished fifth and fourth respectively with the Soviet 4x100 relay team. Kornelyuk won four Soviet titles – 100 in 1970 and 1973; and 4x100 relay in 1973-74.
