경력

Roman Steinberg was thought to be one of the most gifted pupils of legendary Estonian wrestling coach Robert Oksa. Unfortunately his life and sporting career were very short. Steinberg first wrestled internationally at the 1921 World championships in Helsinki, but without success. At the Paris Olympics, Steinberg won four matches and lost one and won a bronze medal. He was Estonian champion in Greco-Roman wrestling in the middleweight class in 1921 and in the light-heavyweight class in 1922 and 1923. In the winter of 1928, Steinberg was in the best form of his life. He was one of the best Estonian medal hopes in wrestling at the 1928 Olympics. But unfortunately in the spring of 1928 while working as a motorist on a ship on Baltic Sea, he was severely cold bitten and died couple of days later to tuberculosis on a hospital in Tallinn.
