경력

After competing at the 1980 Olympics, Régis Clère turned professional shortly after riding the Tour de l’Avenir. Clère had a nice career lasting through 1989, in which he made podiums on the road, on the track, in cyclo-cross, and in six-days. His major professional victories came at the 1981 Flèche Azuréenne, the 1987 Route du Berry, and the 1987 Route du Sud. In 1982 he was French National Champion on the road, and that same year he won the Most Combative Rider award at the Tour de France. In 1989 Clère placed third in individual pursuit at the World Championships. He was sixth in 1985 and ninth in 1987 at the French Cyclo-cross Championships. Clère rode the Tour de France five times (1981-83, 1987-88), with a best finish of 45th in 1982. He also rode the Vuelta a Espana in 1981 and 1985, placing ninth in 1981. On the track at the French championships, Clère was twice runner-up in the individual pursuit (1985, 1988) and placed third in 1984. Near the end of his career he rode a number of European six-day events.
