Jyrki Lumme began his hockey career with Ilves Tampere in 1981. From 1982-85 Lumme played with KooVee Tampere and in 1985 he again joined Ilves and played there until 1988. In 1988 Lumme joined the Montreal Canadiens and in 1990 joined the Vancouver Canucks, playing with them for nine seasons. In 1992, 1994, 1996 and 1997 he was awarded the Babe Pratt Trophy as the Canucks’ most outstanding defenseman. In 1994 he also played in the Stanley Cup finals against the New York Rangers. In 1998 Lummi joined the Phoenix Coyotes, where he played three seasons, then spent one season with the Dallas Stars, before playing two seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Lummi finished his playing career with Ilves from 2005-07. Internationally Lumme won silver in 1988 and bronze at the 1998 Winter Olympics and bronzes at the 1991 European Championships, 2000 World Championships and 1991 Canada Cup. He also played for the Finnish 2002 Olympic and 1990, 1996 and 1997 World Championships teams.
