Jearl Miles-Clark was a 400 and 800 metre runner who competed at four Olympics between 1992 and 2004. She won gold medals in the 4x400 relay at the 1996 and 2000 Olympics, and a silver medal in that event in 1992. At the World Championships she won nine medals, including four golds, with three relay golds, and highlighted by her 1993 gold medal in the 400 metres. She was also World Indoor Champion at 400 metres in 1997, and won the 1992 World Cup.

Miles-Clark was a four-time US champion at both 400 and 800 metres. During her career she set three American records in the 800 metres, with her final one at 1:56.40, run in Zürich on 11 August 1999, a record that still stands as of 2018. She attended Alabama A&M University, graduating in 1989.

After retiring from competition, Miles-Clark went into coaching, assisting her husband, J. J. Clark at the University of Connecticut. Miles-Clark is the sister-in-law of Olympians Joetta Clark-Diggs and Hazel Clark-Riley.
