Rower Fabrizio Biondi was coached by Vincenzo Raveggi and Claudio Kaminski at Unione Canottieri in Livorno, and was one of the greatest Italian scullers. In his only Olympic appearance, he was 10th in single sculls at Montréal in 1976 and at the 1977 and 1978 World Championships, Biondi finished sixth and 12th respectively, again in the single sculls. He was the only Italian rower in 1978 as it was a bad period for the sport in Italy.
In the double sculls, Biondi teamed up with fellow Olympian Silvio Ferrini and the pair finished sixth at the 1974 Worlds, and eighth the following year. At the 1979 Mediterranean Games, Biondi and Annibale Venier, took the double sculls bronze behind France and Yugoslavia. Biondi won four Italian titles. He won the double sculls with Ferrini in 1973 and 1974, and the single sculls on Lake Mantova in 1976 and Lake Piediluco the following year.
