경력

Ed Scrobe began gymnastics in novice and junior meets before World War II. During the war, he served for three years with the 10th Mountain Division, seeing significant action in Italy. Scrobe competed at the 1948 and 1952 Olympics, as the top US scorer at both Olympics, and was with the US team that toured Japan in 1950. He won nine AAU titles, spanning 13 years, taking the all-around in 1948, the parallel bars in 1946, 1950, 1952, 1955, and 1959; horizontal bar in 1947 and 1949, and the vault in 1951, adding 6 silver and 10 bronze medals at AAU Championships.

Scrobe’s career was as a high school teacher in the Bronx. He worked at a bank while trying out for the 1948 Olympics, but the bank would not give him time off for the Olympics and released him. He went back to NYU and became a teacher until he retired. Scrobe was inducted into the US Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 1980.
