After the Swiss pair Édouard Candeveau and Alfred Felber won the bronze medal in Antwerp with coxswain Paul Piaget, they did even better in 1924, winning gold in Paris, this time with Émile Lachapelle steering. As a sculler in Amsterdam Candeveau did not advance beyond the quarter-final. Between the two Olympic medals Candeveau and Felber twice took the European crown in 1922 and 1923 in the coxed pairs, representing the Société Nautique de Geneva. Candeveau won two more European championships, in the single sculls in 1931 and in 1929 in the double sculls, also winning one silver and one bronze medal.
