Donna Mayhew competed at two Olympic Games as a javelin thrower, finishing 7th in 1988 and 12th in 1992. She was a silver medalist at the 1991 Pan American Games, and competed at the 1991 World Championships, where she did not make the final. Mayhew was sixth in the javelin at the 1989 World Cup.
Mayhew competed for the University of Arizona, graduating in 1985. She was third in the javelin at the 1983 NCAA Meet. She was a five-time US Champion, winning the javelin title in 1988 and 1992-95, also winning the US Olympic Trials in 1988 and 1992.
